She Used to Fill the Room
She used to fill the room
And it was brighter and happier with her in it.
Wrinkle by wrinkle
No longer recognizable at all to herself
Soon she would cease to exist
As she quietly released her claim on life
One thread loose at a time
A slow but steady retreat
And she wondered if anyone noticed all the pieces of her that were missing
It is cold and unfeeling here
And it hurts to appear
And she wondered what the point of existence was
When you can disappear and there's no one to witness the loss
No one ever looked long enough at her to see her
So no one ever felt the hole she left
But she used to fill the room
And it was brighter and happier with her in it.
And now she takes a small corner
To herself.
