The Build Up

I swallowed butterflies
I remember the feeling
Their wings beating in my chest
Fluttering in my stomach
Heart racing
Breathless.

The build up
Stepping on the gas with the brakes still on.
The engine roaring
Waiting for the let go.
Who will be the first to let go?

I can smell the smoke
All this burning in my throat
Restless mumbling I could choke
On
All the words I never spoke
Out loud.

The build up just keeps building
Keeps on pushing me to reach out
But my hands are frozen
At my sides.

I can feel the butterflies
Looking deep in your eyes
Feel the heat between us
All the restless feelings rising
Lips half open.

I swallowed butterflies
I remember the feeling
Like time wasn't moving
Frozen in that moment waiting
Won't you just kiss me?
