I Saw You In My Dreams

I saw you in my dreams.

You were there looking over me

as though you were a shield,

the atmosphere surrounding my world.

And each breath you took

encompassed my sky,

like the colors in the sunset.

You held my hand

like the ocean

is held by the sand.

And my head rested

beneath the stars in your eyes,

just below the voice

that hushes my anxious pulse,

the frightened beat

of my heart.

Sorrow is erased, carelessly

with a finger tip

trailing my tears;

a kiss to my forehead.

I saw you in my dreams,

you were there holding me.

The comforting sound of your

nearness

embraced my ears,

like the familiar tone of morning

after a long night.
