When you're older
I don't think some people realize that the early years in child rearing are so important. You're deciding what kind of person this kid is going to grow up to be. You're kind of messed up, so maybe your first inclination of handling situations should be analyzed and reconfigured. Maybe your first instinct should automatically be under scrutiny.
1. If your first inclination is to threaten.
2. If your first inclination is to yell.
3. If your first inclination is to make somebody feel like they don't do anything right.
4. If what you do doesn't work.
Change your ways.
No matter what you tell yourself, you do not have the right to screw up another human being by being a crappy parent that doesn't take the time to re-adjust your parenting practices. No child deserves to grow up thinking they were a constant disappointment to their parent. And that's what constantly yelling at, threatening, and just all around not showing real love and support to a kid does to them. You should know, I'm sure you saw it enough in your childhood. And let me just tell you the television is a crappy babysitter. Sitting your kid in front of the tv all day long only promotes the idea that you want to drown out your child. That what they have to say doesn't matter to you. It's also a good way to make sure your kid can't concentrate, has poor social interaction, and is addicted to things like tv. (Which usually = malfunctioning adult)
Did it work for your parents? Obviously not, they made an adult who's first instinct is to get angry about everything. Who has no self esteem. Who thinks they're going to fail at everything so why even try.
Who wants their kids to turn out that way?
We have an opportunity to make better humans that we are,why wouldn't you want to do that?
I know we all want to protect our children from any harm, sometimes that harm is you. Change your behavior. Get an attitude adjustment. Grow up. Read a book. Exercise. Whatever it takes to put your mind in a different place and react to people you love like you love them.
Just a thought.
